The last two posts are very good. There was a reason why WP let him go in the first place, as I hintted at on the Subiaco thread. Could it possible that it was no mistake he was left out of Perth's forty? Could it be possible that other interests -- includding the paper -- are trying to strir things between Subiaco and the PFC?

It wasn't only that year that we were hopeless, it was many other years around that time, one flag in about 60 years in fact, but that never stopped the likes of your mob and the other top teams poaching our star players, not our fringe magoo strugglers such as you lot are sooking about, try Randall (as Southerner said he had great pleasure watching him tear old easts a new one in the derby), Marshall, Johns, Dimmer, Gepp, Court etc. None of you gave a farrrk back then did you...

DG: don't forget others: Ken Screech, Ron Baynes, John Begg, Wayne Loxley, John Hall, Frank Bucknall and Gordon Polesn -- not all household names but they still recruitted them. Hall, aside, they all played a lot more league football than the present lad.

The only club to have won out of this is WP for two reasons:

they got rid of a player they did not rate
they took Perth's $5,000

And yet whom is complainning about Subiaco over on our thread?

Don't write him off so quickly- ruckman do take time and Subiaco have show a propensity for turning fringe players at other clubs into League players.

But very poor by Perth Footy department.

Subi may give him a year in the reserves, two seasons maximum. The reason, I would imagine, that PFC has not done that is that they need to win games of football NOW.

DG it is amazing what folk notice or not notice when their side is winning....pretty sure SF and SD were doing ok when Subi lost those players......its how the game goes people come and go

I do see what you're pointing to DG - and yes to a certain degree there was a bleeding of ex-Subiaco players during that period to other clubs , but your history books should also include the bail-out and why so many Lions walked because you couldn't pay them
Ask Randy how much he was owed & how handy that South offer was
John Dimmer wanted to join South but we had many similar players - he went to East Perth
And we had Alan Rose go the other way to you guys
And to be fair John Begg came from Melbourne I believe in the VFL originally

Southerner: good points. Given the situation at the LIons it makes the loyalty of men such as Neil Taylor, Brian Taylor, Dwayne Lamb, Phil Lamb all the more fantastic --- they won't paid either.

Rose played some good games -- Lewington also joinned but with little impact even in a rubbish side. Randall was a senior player, a premiership player and was getting a regular game when he left.


Returning the thread to matters PFC, I think it is important to analyse this question in a wider context, particularlly in relation to those whom have criticissed the club. Most PFC people have been calling for a ruckman for a long time -- in the last couple of years, the club has recruitted Sutherland, a younger ruckman and the Richmond bloke, an expericed player. In other words, the club has addressed needs and has been a little bit unlucky.

Arkroyal the issue here is the incompetence of PFC management.
Firstly paying $5k for a bloke who may never make it.
Hardly recruiting to needs.
Secondly the incompetence of spending a clearance fee on a player you then don't put on your protected list.
Thirdly, having the audacity to complain about Subi snapping him up.
Fourthly if he was worth the fee why did they not throw him in to at least help Eyres thus giving him the opportunity to prove us wrong.
Fifthly I wonder if Subi were smart enough to send him to us to pay the fee in the knowledge he would come to them in June.
Sixthly as someone said early he hardly shined in the reserves.
Cut the bleating PFC and at the same time cut the incompetence.
