Are you saying that Lathlain and surrounding suburbs is a dump or that Lathlain Park is a dump?

While I am sad to see Lathlain Park cease to exist as I have known it I am looking forward to the redevelopment and hoping that with the Eagles moving in (as tenants only ;)) it will see more activity in the area which will hopefully have a positive effect on local businesses.

As for the Hotel TFAF they have recently had new owners and from what I here they are doing good things. Have you been there recently? If not have you had a bad experience there in the past?

While I like the Brisbane Hotel I don't think something similar would fit into the demographic of the Carlisle area. It would fit in along the Albany Highway strip though. One thing would be the prices of drinks. The Brisbane whilst still good can be a bit pricey.

Grassy what are your thoughts then about what the new owners have done to make the pub more appealing or why does it appeal to you?

Claremonts new setup will be terrific, Freo will be done in the next few years to facilitate the SF/EF ground sharing, Leederville has been made over for some time, and hopefully Basso will get it's redevelopment eventually. While we still have concerns about the integrity of the comp going forward the WAFL will have some of the best non AFL footy facilities in the country.

Great post Senior.

I agree that it is good to see WAFL grounds getting the makeovers the need to bring them into the 21st century and hopefully see them stand the test of time for another 40-50 years.

Am I right in thinking you are for the Eagles having a stand alone team? I remember before the alignment started I said was of the opinion that the Eagles should have a stand alone team and Fremantle should take over Peel. From memory majority did not want any AFL involvement in the WAFL in any form. Would be good if that was the case but I think now that people have seen the alternative with what has happened with East Perth and Peel I think they are more inclined to having a stand alone Eagles and Dockers reserve team.

This would see the elimination of the bye :) :) :) :). Also the money that the WAFC was putting into Peel can then be redistributed to the original eight clubs.

Lots of new units and apartments have gone up around the train station over the last 12-18 months Bazza.

WRONG! Would have been flattened about 5 years ago.

Yes it went about 5-6 years ago and it wasn't the Lathlain Bowling Club it was the once former mighty Carlisle Bowling Club. They had one of the best greens in the state. Amalgamated with the Victoria Park Bowling Club and did win a couple of Premierships or Pennants, whatever you call them in lawn bowls terms but have struggled the last couple of seasons.

flattened 5 years ago maybe but ceased to be used 15 to 20 years ago no?
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

That's a massive loss top the community, had great greens and a very decent sized clubhouse and bar, seemed to be just abandoned now as a vacant site. But a sad sign of the times as many BCs have gone, They need pokies to survive.

Are you seriously saying they are as conveniently located as close by as The Norfolk in Freo the Cappa Strip etc or the ones are in Leederville?

They are like 50 meters away from the from the ground

You have Kettle Café in Lathlain Place which is 400 metres away, Stadium Café which is 700 metres away, La Belle Sweets which is 700 metres away Café Bella Rosa which is 1km away Raw By Chris which is 1km away, Carlisle Bakery which is 1km away and the Carlisle Hotel which is 1.3km away.

So no they are not directly across the road but still all relatively close by. Put it this way the furthest thing is the pub and I can walk that in under 10 mins.

what is the quality of the macchiatos like at the Kettle café compared to Ginos?

Can you get a Little Creatures Bright Ale on tap at the Carlisle and do the bar girls there have a full set of teeth without without ugg boots?
