I think there is a fairly simple solution, every club has surplus reserves players that can’t get a game in the reserves and get farmed out to various amateur clubs. Each club could provide a list of fringe players that might be available including their height, weight, age, position and maybe even let some of them train with WCER 1 night a week and if they don’t make the cut at their WAFL clubs reserves then makes them available to play WCER instead of ammo’s.

They remain tied to their club but released on a permit similar to what WC did with McInness, Grey and Fisher to Perth last year. If the player proves themselves they could remain to train with the Eagles but still be pulled back by their WAFL club if there is an injury crisis.

Another brilliant piece of journalism from the man that people on here call "Clownsend"
Yep...thats something I've never quite understood either ToOl.  To me JT writes very insightful articles on the WAFL and is generally on the money.  He also attends games on a regular basis and is probably the most sympathetic journo towards the WAFL going around.  I recall he wrote a piece about Peel parachuting 17 Freo players into the 2016 GF which in my opinion was superb.  He may have a crack at some clubs from time to time but that's his job so I'm not sure why the angst...wear it and move on I say.

BC I can probably understand from a Subiaco supporter there is something you don’t understand. There are times when John Townsend has written disparaging articles putting down, practically mocking Perth for being a word he likes to use, perennial cellar dwellers. In other words kick a club while they are down. And I should have included Claremont supporters in my opening line, being the club he barracks for.

So incensed was our president Bob Shields at the article written by John Townsend after our loss to SD in the second round, Bob made a video he posted on the clubs website correcting John Townsend on a number of points.

It’s easy for a bloke who’s club plays finals most years in all grades and arguably has the richest sources of talent purely due to postcodes where demographically my club suffers the opposite problem. I too was incensed at that article mocking us after one game, one loss that we all got ahead of ourselves. Well yes we have had a bad season due to the most horrific injury toll in all the years up I’ve been following the club.

But the fact is we don’t have the talent coming through from the bottom up, and that’s a fact. Maybe he is starting to get the message that something is wrong when one club is continually failing while other clubs like his continues to flourish, maybe it’s not all down to bad management if his recent article about zones and a possible WAFL draft was any sort of a guide.

Encouraging news overall. However, I don't like the part about housing Eagles interstate players at Perth as an "equalisation measure." Firstly, that is just an alignment by another name which would be seized on by opposition fans to discount the legitimacy of any success we might have. Secondly, it would absolve the WAFC of having to do anything about zone reform. Just go back to a reverse draft.

On JT, I have found his articles on Perth offensive, but mostly because they are true. He was one of the few journos who tipped us to finish out of the 5 this year. His article after the SD game seemed harsh at the time, but at season's end, it is JT who is vindicated, not Shields. Sorry, Perth fans, if we want positive media coverage we have to earn it, and we most certainly have not. Otherwise, I agree JT does an sterling job promoting the WAFL.

Well said TN...I guess it's a case of don't shoot the messenger. We might not like what he writes but it doesn't mean it's not factually correct or on point.

Don't think opposition folk would be fussed if Perth got first dibs to WCE E.S boys.....as long as local boys went back to their original clubs when not playing AFL......knowing Perth's luck WCE will draft local for the next year or two.....plenty of decent young WA talent out there....none from Perth sadly.....thus the zone changes might still happen as well.....

Not sure why this topic was even started.
Will never happen.
Some very long standing and influential Perth people well known to me orchestrated the rewriting of the constitution a couple of years ago.
And they are well versed in writing Constitutions.

Well BC and Ted, let’s just see if Townsend rips into Claremont and writes weight of expectation their biggest enemy if Claremont fail to win the flag this year after they sacked the coach who took them within a kick of a premiership last year and with what is widely regarded as the richest talent pool in the WAFL and possibly the country and have a player that is favoured to win his third Sandover medal in the last 5 years.

Maybe he can call those petticoats perennial bridesmaids?
