It will depend a lot on Liberals internal polling, Porter will be weighing that up, 5.5% isn't a lot when the its time factor kicks in.

IMHO Julie Bishop was the Libs biggest asset and now she's gone, the neanderthals in their party room could cope with her being deputy leader but their misogyny wouldn't allow her to be leader and hence PM. If they had, the Libs would be neck and neck with the Greens Labour coalition, if not ahead. She was their best chance of winning another term and keeping Shortarse and his Greens & Unions masters out of the lodge.

Unfortunately SS she was always behind the eight ball with the Libs being female and from WA. I'm also not sure she had the political nous and strength of intellect to be PM. She struggled as shadow treasurer but excelled at FM where she could swan around the world and exert her presence. Don't get me wrong...I'm a fan of JB but I'm not sure she was made of the right stuff to succeed as PM. I do agree though, she would have given the Libs their best chance of winning the next election but don't reckon she would have lasted as PM if they got up.

It is an extremely sad reality that unless you are a current NSW/VIC pollywaffle (and to a lesser extent QLD eg Rudd) you are virtually no chance of becoming Australia's Prime Minister.

You nailed it BC. What I read into her exit speech yesterday was she's been sitting back observing the performance of the front bench in particular over the last few weeks since the medivac bill and I think she knows deep down inside she couldn't have performed like Scott Morrison and ripped Bill Shorten to shreds. Scott Morrison is a very good operator, more than competent and I don't think any woman could hold a candle to him right now when it comes to selling the virtues of the government and exposing Labor and their leader for the weak parasites they are.

Interesting interpretation of her speech. If she was so enamoured of Morrisons performance as PM why did she walk out of the parliament before he had a chance to pay tribute to her? I saw it as a very skilful diplomatic version of giving the middle finger to the party as it is being run at the moment. As per labor in 2013 this mob need a few years in opposition to sort themselves out and with any luck get rid of Neandrathals like Abbott, Andrews and co whose views are out of touch with modern Australia. Like Rudd and Co 5 years ago, the electorate need to stand up and say they will not tolerate disunity, backstabbing of elected Prime Ministers and Navel gazing at the expense of serving the Australian people.

Well said Mike....I'm on the conservative side of the fence as most on here that read these threads will already know but I'm hoping the likes of Dutton, Abbott, Andrews and a few others get the push in May. I'm pretty sure Shorten will stuff up big time in his first term and the Libs will get some new talent coming through and become competitive pretty quickly...for the sake of the country I hope so as Shorten et al are too beholding to powerful unions and left leaning pollies and lobby groups for my liking.

She was highest profile WA MP we have had in decades ( the last one was Beasley who was always a bit of an oddball to me), she was also one the biggest fund raisers for the party, that's now two they have lost Turnbull and Bishop, I think they will struggle big time matching the dollars they raised for election campaigns, She made a great FM and had some real impact on the scene, I reckon her performance for the downed Malaysian Plane was really outstanding, I know she had a lot of contact with the WA Families that lost kids so it got quite personal.

But to be honest I don't know about her as PM, there was just something not quite there for me, maybe she was worth a try, but being from WA I reckon there isn't much chance tbh, The Eastern States dominate as they have the most seats, never mind being a female.

Mike and BC, Im with you all the way here, Im pretty conservative myself especially socially I guess, I invested a lot in supporting Abbott as PM, gave him a go, but it soon became obvious he wasn't up to the job, to me as I and BC have said on other threads , he is a ghost of the past, him Dutton Andrews Abetz just don't cut it anymore, their time has come and gone, and a clean sweep of them this time around would do the party good.

For mine the future lies in the likes of Friedenburg Porter ( if he survives) Hastie ( same) also I'm quite impressed with Bridget Mckenzie from the Nationals..

This is a disaster for the LNP.JB is just not a high profile woman in the party .One of the few.Shes also very good at raising money for the party.ALP will probably out spend the LNP $3 to $1 at the next federal election. Given that at least 10% of voters are swing voters, thats huge.
