As it is this Royal Comission and the front page of The West Australian does not deliver the Union killer blow. Not enough to return the Howard Era ABCC Commission, not even close.Clearly there is problems with the Union Movement that need to be sorted.A shakeout is required and the buck stops with the peak body the ACTU.$70,000,000 IS MASSIVLY EXPENSIVE for Mr Abbot to grind his blunt axe. Also the findings will allways be questioned by Dyson not steping down and allowing another Judge to sit after attending the LNP Fundraser. That was one of Mr Abbots worse decisions when he was priminister to keep Dyson.ITS our 70 million not Mr Abbots money after that massive conflict of interest.

That is not missed on me sd. I understand that we would still be working for 2/6d an hour if not for the unions. Unfortunately, their leadership get greedy and full of their own importance. I can tell you that they carry on with personal agendas and forget who they are representing.

Thanks to 1 fella, not normally Industrially inclined, but a Union Member,we fixed that problem at the next EBA.

But hey,we at the Shop floor are not the ones preaching about slashing penalty Rates. The likes of the CCI are doing that. They started the arguements on this, nobody else. What would they be prepared to sacrifice,as an act of good faith to those that work Sundays and keep it that way for a year or 2?

What's more, the CCI of WA have been known to take a keen interest in the workplace conditions of those that work in Human Services.Like Slashing conditions,as I found out from Union Organiser back in '98.They still keep in touch with our Board and others in our Industry. We still keep a very wary eye on them.

Can't do much those, with much if the service is being privatised, which does nothing to encourage good staff retention. And the people we work for, suffer in the Short and long term. It's hard enough keeping people now, with the generally fair conditions we have now.But if the Government and CCI get their way, there's going to be a lot more caught up in this, like the parents of people we work for.

They've been known to protest about cuts in services before, they vote and the Government might find here, swinging voters can turn from a trickle to a Flood.

We've already seen what a Mess this Government has made privatising services with their friends at Serco, with their frequent Cockups.

As for Full scale inquiries into Unions,if you're only going to scratch the surface,to get the Tip of the Iceberg, then the Inquiry is a waste of time and a blatant Excercise in politics.C'mon Malcolm,I challenge you to dig far deeper next time around, with greater terms of reference.Bring it on I say!

For those slobbering at the thought this would hasten the end of Uniond, think again. This would be doing us a Massive favour, getting rid of the Bad apples we'd find hard to remove. But again, are you Raving Tories a little bit nervous about what a Full Bore Inquiry might find? Now,I'm slobbering!I'd really like to know about All The Friends of so called Dodgy Union. It would make a Very Interesting read. And it wouldn't necessarily be 1 major political party that is friendly with them either.

Politics can make very strange and unlikely Bedfellows.

it wasn't the CCI suggesting a cut in weekend penalty rates..it was a report from the Productivity Commission which is supposed to be neutral.

And a happy new year to you sd. I hope all goes well for you - honestly.
Yes, I enjoyed the benefits of what the unions won for me IN THE PAST. But I can tell you, that in the 8 years I was a (forced)union member, they were the cause of me losing more money than they won me. Mate, at my ripe old age, I could tell a couple of stories where they helped us, but I could tell you 30 stories they destroyed people.

For those who advocate Sunday penalty rates should be cut back to those of Saturday it is interesting that the following seem to be exempt from this reduction: Police; Paramedics; Nurses; Fire Fighters. The obvious reason is that they are the ones with the political clout and therefore are exempt. Let's just pick on the checkout "chicks", cleaners, HSAs (orderlies) etc.

As for the CCI when did they last support a pay increase for the lowest pay and/or when did they last criticise a huge pay increase to a CEO? When did the CCI criticise the golden handshakes for the likes of the ex-CEOs of GTelstra, EMP etc?

As for the Royal Commission it is completely tainted from start to finish. As politically motivated and the other politically motivated RC Abbott called.

As for Emperor Barnett the RC is waiting his electoral defeat.

Turnbull said himself that some of the findings in this witch hunt will actually strengthen the Union movement, perhaps getting them back to what they were when they helped you Shark

I'm not going to get into a political debate over this sd. I just call it as I see it. The only thing they did for me as a Fitter/Machinist was got me a couple of allowances. One was a tool allowance even though the company supplied all tools. The other was a clothing allowance and guess who supplied the clothers???? What concerns me is the other 28 instances where they did nothing for THEIR MEMBERS.

What about that hag Julie bishop chartering an raaf plane back to canberra from yet another perth social function to the tune of forty grand of taxpayers money? Lets spend 80 million to investigate dodgy politician behaviour, we'd uncover alot more than a couple of dubious purchases of f350 utes

you're probably right TOOL but this doesn't mitigate the fact that union officials have been stealing union funds for a very long time. if an RC on pollies perks was ever held I'm sure they'd find all sorts of things but I can't see any politicians of either persuasion agreeing to it.
