Warner at least has the runs on the board so to speak has a Test Ave-47, 21 Test Centuries etc and with Smith out he is our most experienced and best performed batsman left and did battle through last night despite being worked over by Broad & Archer and not being in form.
We need some of these others given a chance in some cases their last for mine actually pulling their finger out and hanging in to get some partnerships going to lose 8/43 last night is unforgiveable despite the conditions favouring the bowlers.
Despite using the Duke balls in SS cricket over the last few years our batsmen still havent come to grips with how to handle them.
Kudos to Labushagne who has made the most of his chance so far and is digging in and showing some of his more experienced team mates up.

As for the bowlers I agree LS I bet you London to a brick tonight they bowl way to short and dont go to school on the accurate line and length Broad and Archer bowled last night which allowed perfectly for the swing to have full effect!

FMD...is this a test match or a 50 over??? Ozzie bowlers have been superb in the first session and Warner on fire in the slips. If we can roll the great unwashed for under 100 then it's game on.

Well, I committed the cardinal sin of predicting the outcome of a Test match before BOTH teams had batted.
As modest as our batting is, it's possible that the Poms are even worse, being dismissed here for 67 in 27.5 overs after making only 85 in 23.4 overs in their first innings against Ireland at Lord's.
However, we may yet see a few more twists, particularly if Jofra Archer is again on song.
That said, a first-innings lead of 112 would've been beyond any Australian fan's wildest dreams 3-4 hours ago.
Oh dear, Warner out for a duck - this Test may well be over tomorrow.

Whilst this match is far from over, rather be 283 in front, than 283 behind going into day 3.....did I say day 3....rollercoaster of a test match....the Smith super sub has surely has won over all Aust fans with another outstanding knock....not sure what role Paine plays in this Aust side....but fark he is a liability....more so with another keeper in the team.....pity no other Aust bat could go with the super sub....May prove costly perhaps....surely day 3 will see a flatter pitch, better to bat on?...hopefully the tail can wag, push the score up to 350....but TBH after day 1 any lead for Aust would of been greatly accepted.

Well welcome to test cricket Mr Archer....limited rest due to your batsmen imploding and out back you come to bowl.....great effort by the 3 pace boys....obviously hindsight now, but wish Starc was playing instead of the GOAT...that extra quick would of been handy esp in Eng 2nd innings....tho considering the paceman workload was next to nothing in Eng 1st innings....all 3 will be fresh and ready to dig deep for a win if Eng decide to bat with more heart and nous, chasing hopefully a 330 plus total for victory.....game still up for grabs, but Aust sitting in a far far better position than this time yesterday...

Is this real cricket or did the Poms play "tip & run" as first nine wickets were all poor shots & all caught. As expected the Aussie bowlers didn't aim for the stumps..
Agree with Freezin re Paine. but Wade hung in with Marnus for 33 runs.
Are the Bookies involved as both captains got a duck. Poms didn't appear to care for their wicket. Low scores, etc.
Surely Paine goes for Smith & Wade keeps.

This Test is far from over we are only 283 ahead with only 4 wickets in the shed and there are still 3 full days of cricket remaining.
I can remember England chasing down 320 or so for the loss of only 4 wickets back in 2001 at Headingly with Mark Butcher of all people smashing 173* on the last day.
One thing I do remember about that innings was how short Brett Lee bowled which was cannon fodder for the Poms batsmen.

Totally agree BH....had the "pleasure" of watching Butchers winning knock live.....can't see Eng playing so easily as they did 2nd time round.....so early wickets the key again.....but hopefully Aust tail can squeeze out another 50 + runs.....if only one other Aust batsman went bigger TBH

Totally agree BH totally farking pointless playing two keepers if one can't score.....but Paine won't be dropped but geez he is a liability with the bat....especially since Aust top 6 are so dodgy.....rather have Mitch batting 7 than Paine....at least Mitch bowls....a bit..LOL....the sooner Carey comes in the better

Yep totally agree mate Paine's first class batting record of only 1 hundred (and that was some 11 or 12 years ago now) doesnt lie and his batting is just getting worse as it does for most keeper/batsmen over the years- Marsh, Healy, Haddin even Gillys average dropped from over 50 to 47 in his last year or 2 but at least all those blokes made a fair few Test & 1st Class Hundreds to start with.

Gees watching that last day at Headingly back in 01 was frustrating enough from my lounge room I am not sure some of the language I was directing at Lee & Gillespie would have pleased the Yorkshire crowd and constabulary mate haha!

There is no way England will bat as poorly as their first innings again most of their wickets were lost though poor shots not necessarily great bowling and we actually held some catches for once but one thing has been evident if you pitch it up on a good length there has been plenty of swing about even with clear sky above as evidenced by Stokes, Broad, Woakes & Archer last night even after 50 or more overs.

Good points, Beas, Freez and LS, England certainly won't capitulate for a second time.
Obviously the more runs we add on the first session of Day 3 the better, but I'd love to see us take the lead beyond 350.
The batting of Marnus Loosebuschange has been a revelation - his patience is a virtue, plus he had a bit of luck on his side last night.
Despite his poor batting, Tim Paine is clearly captaining better than his counterpart Joe Root (whose batting has been just as bad).
However, there must come a time when Alex Carey takes the gloves.
As to whether Mitch Starc should've been selected, it will depend on how influential Nathan Lyon is when England bats again.

I think Aussies need a minimum of 50 from their last 4 wickets to feel relatively secure. 100 would be fantasic but the lower order of both sides have been shot out fairly quickly so for the innings to go for another hour or two Marnus needs to be clever in the way that he keeps the strike and face as many balls as possible.
