best thing would have to be the Viccos having to give up at lunch - getting a bit of their own back after all this time
Be interesting to read the prictorian sports pages….how WA spoiled a good game by shutting it down.

One of the biggest threats will be NSW poaching either Inglis or Phillippe - Peter Nevill has retired from all cricket

I reckon they will have a crack at Phillipe Southerner as he already has contacts with them through the Sydney Sixers. I suppose it will depend if he is happy to stay in WA and develop as a middle order batsmen or if he is wanting to be a keeper/batsman. Inglis would be first choice keeper without doubt.

Looking back through the records of shield winners, apart from 1948/49 to 67/68, WA has been a constant winner of it.  I was wondering if anyone has any theories as to why we have had our longest drought between shields?

Not easy to surmise 58 but will have a go.
We have certainly had the talent over the last 20 years since the last Shield win but for whatever reason be it poor attitude, poor culture at one point under the coach before Langer, poor decision making at times in critical moments of games, tough opposition especially NSW, QLD & VIC, National duties etc etc we just coulnt quite win the damn thing, it should be noted too they are not easy to win.
WA who only came into the SS in 1947/48 have won 16 times which is more than QLD (9) who have nearly  double WA's population & SA (13) who have been in the SS since it started in 1892/93.
Although we hadnt won it for 23 seasons I did note we havent finished last since the early 1960s which would indicate we have been around the mark but just not taken the final step.

There would be  a multiple of reasons 58.
The preparation of the Waca wicket. Not the wicket of the 70's,80's or early 90's.Coming from the 3 day test ,1992-93 V the West Indies.
Loss of young talent to the East Coast
Last decade has seen the lion's share of resources,go into the Big Bash.
Waca board and management seem quiet stable now.But that's not always been the case.If sporting organizations fail at the top.It normally filters down to the team performance.Have been told that by multiple Waca Members.
Like the National team.Langer brought the winning culture back to Wa cricket.

BH talking to  Waca Cricket coaches.A number of changes came in about a decade ago.
Coaching credentials, player identification as teenagers. With special squads formed.Retaining all the young boys+girls in Cricket.
.And a total revamp of how things where done at the development levels.
Langer + the current Waca board+CA all worked to reformat Wa Cricket..If not we would end up permanently down the bottom. like South Australia.Who have struggled in the shield for 50 years

Thank you gents for your views, some really good points there.
I guess I was spoilt by our success in the 70’s and 80’s.  I wasn’t around for the first one, but started following cricket in the 67/68 win.  I love the big bash games as light entertainment, but disappointed that the lions share of resources were poured into it. Hopefully we are back on track for the future.

our decline probably co-incided with the rise of Queensland - they won their first titles around the time our drought started
But we lost quite a few players to other states which didn't help our cause plus as the other guys have said our admin was bloody poor
