I was in the tin shed at the Hay St end of the ground in front of the police building. That was a T20 innings in 1975 for sure, very entertaining. From memory Clive Lloyd and Alvin Kallicharan also scored tons for the Windies as well in a total of around 600 although they faded in the memory compared with Fredricks. Also Ian Chappell hit a nice century for Australia in their first innings before Andy Roberts destroyed the Aussies in the 2nd. Funny to think that that was the only victory for the Caribbean boys in a 5 - 1 drubbing but the foundations were there for a truly great team for years to come.
I was also at the WACA as a young lad, Mike.
Kallicharran reached 57 but Clive Lloyd made 149 off 186 balls at 80.11, an exceptional strike rate at Test level.
Fredericks' 169 came from 145 balls (strike rate of 116.55), but I remember he was most explosive in the time (about 90 minutes, at a guess) the Windies batted before lunch.
In many respects, Lloyd's "unobtrusive" innings reminded me of Adam Gilchrist bludgeoning an unbeaten 113 off 94 balls (120.21) in the same innings as Matt Hayden brought up his 380 (437 balls, 86.96) against Zimbabwe at the WACA in 2003.
This is not meant to compare Fredericks and Hayden's innings, as "Freddo" was far more explosive against a genuinely good bowling attack.
