UK: that is not quite correct -- people followed WA players whom went over to play in Victoria not so much the competition. Which, is of course, why a section of opinion in this state does not follow the AFL at all to this day.

You have no idea of WA if you believe the vfl was massively followed here pre Eagles in 1987.
The WAFL was the king in WA the VFL was just on a half hour highlights show called The Winners where any real interest was in how the WA boys played especially in the lead up to the State Of origin game about who we would pick from our boys playing in the vfl to annually roll the supposedly far superior-unbeatable Vics!

The only time I re-call talking about the VFL was when my grand dad laughed at Essendon's failure to stop Moss returnning to Claremont.

Yep couldn't give a shit what was happening over in Pricktoria, used to tune in and see how the Buzz and Robby Wiley were going , other than that beating the Vics in state of origin was about the most interest I had in VFL.

In fact, referring to the question of the great Graham Moss, his treatment by Essendon is illustrative of how thick the Victorians really are in terms of understanding the code.

Moss won 3 FBs in three years
played five times for Victoria
and won the Bronlow Medal

and yet was not picked at all in the best ever team. Only in 2015, it seems, did they sort of acknowledge him, by making him a life member of the club.

When I was a young bloke playing in the far north, a bloke from the opposite team rolled up wearing a Collingwood tee. Couple of us had to ask where this team played. WA footy was king, Vic footy didn’t raise an eyebrow.

As time went on tho 58 most wa footy followers would watch the winners, and most had a VFL team they followed. Not sure if many Vics knew much about the WAFL. dems the facts

UK; your obsessed with the winners for some reaosn; people use to watch 'match of the day' from the UK too, but I will gurantee that most did not follow the competition seriously -- guess why? Because they were more interestted in the WAFL.

Aint obsessed Ark, just what people posted on HERE about the winners. The facts are Polly Moss Cable Marshall are recalled by mots vis cos they played in the premier comps. As briliant as Michael was, his talent will unknow to most footy followers, be it in vic or sa
