Well said BH
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

BH you are spot on.
I have been meaning to wtite to Townsend after his little history piece in the West left out a few details.
Bill Walker and a couple of other WAFL presidents were over in SA negotiating a comp that included WA & SA teams and the pick of the VIC teams when unbeknown to them the GM of the WAFC another bloke called Walker did the dirty on the WAFL by agreeing to having a team (later to become the Eagles) in the VFL.
It still irks me that in fact the WAFC owns the license of a club whose purpose was to
supply funds fro the betterment of Aussie rules in WA, yet they have been allowed to stockpile $$ at the expense of the genuine football clubs in WA.
The WAFC lost the plot when all their attention was focused on gaining the management rights to the new stadium and all we got at WAFL level was the WAFC spruikers telling us that we had to get as many kids as possible signed up to junior footy so that he Govt could see how wonderfully they had increased the participation numbers.
What was lost in all that was the juniors were signed under the AFL banner and WAFL clubs juniors were no longer theirs and there was no encouragement or recognition that to get to play AFL at league the pathway was through the WAFL.
The WAFC then took that a step further by taking control of the colts and no doubt if WP or any other club folds the WAFC couldn't give a rats because they will still get their $$ from the AFL because they produce players through the colts.
Now they want to give us back control of the colts because hey aren't going to have any $$ if the the Eagles don't have to pay to have a WAFL team.

The WAFL, SANFL, VFA/VFL, TFL, QFL, NSWFL, ACTFL & NTFL would have housed the various leftover players across the clubs in their particular League. But good ol JW and co at WAFL HQ couldnt let their beloved VFL teams go belly up although Fitzroy eventually did and so we had the rush job of WCE entering a VFL comp (with Bris) and having to pay $4 mill up front instead of waiting & watching those shit VIC teams who are still propped up to this day 34 years later by the afl/vfl who should have just been forced to play in a VIC state based comp eg the VFA/VFL!
Many, many WA/SA/TAS State League clubs had more right to be a part of a national league than the likes of perennial strugglers on and off the park like St Kilda, Footscray, Fitzroy, NM, Melb etc!

You wouldn't have a clue BH
AFL commission chairman Richard Goyder has written to the one million-plus members of AFL clubs, assuring them that "18 AFL clubs and 14 AFLW teams" will return to playing "when it is the right time to be back". So Richard must be a Victorian? From Tambellup, Victoria?
WAFL didn't get pushed into entering the AFL.. They jumped regardless off any consequences.
Blame these PRICKS for wanting a better comp for their players.
Whilst your anger for "VICS" is extreme then have a go at Hadyn Bunton Jnr as he was also a VIC. Got Swans out of a shit hole they lived in for nearly 30 years..
The support for WAFL is nearly DEAD.

LOL what has your claptrap above got to do with the history of what went down at WAFL HQ in the mid 80s lead by a VIC wanker with his own vfl agenda (he was an ex Collingwood player)?!
I suggest you have a look at your own words highlighted above with a mirror and take your cesspit virus covered state of VIC tinted glasses off!

From Fox footy

Fremantle and West Coast look set to be apart of a Gold Coast hub in the first part of the season.
The Gold Coast is firming to host non-Queensland clubs in the first chunk of the season, with the AFL set to utilise the region as a hub.
Victoria has also emerged as a possible hub for both Perth-based clubs at some stage during the winter months. Fox Footy Sources close to discussions were adamant finer details are still being worked through on Wednesday afternoon.
At the very least, West Coast is preparing for a stint on the Gold Coast as the most likely scenario if their state government doesn’t allow exemptions.
There is still hope among officials in Adelaide and the AFL that the South Australian government will allow exemptions for a fly in, fly out model. The same cannot be said for WA, which has indicated a more hard-line stance than any other state.

McGowan has allowed the Eagles and Dockers to resume full squad training from the 25th May and will allow any teams coming in for a hub arrangement to train whilst in quarantine. This leaves SA as the only state with restrictions on full training. It also gives the AFL the opportunity to assign Perth as one of the hub venues. How about the following to start up the season in mid June

3 hubs of 6 teams each

Perth Hub
West Coast
Freo
Port Adelaide
Adelaide
St Kilda
Carlton

Gold Coast hub

Brisbane
Gold Coast
Sydney Swans
GWS
Western Bulldogs
North Melbourne

Melbourne/Geelong hub

Collingwood
Essendon
Richmond
Hawthorn
Geelong
Melbourne

These hubs would be in place for 6 weeks with 2 weeks quarantine for interstate clubs and then 4 weeks to play rounds 2 - 7 with teams in hubs playing each other. This configuration would ensure no repeat match ups from round 1.

A fair, intelligent, well planned roadmap to get the afl started back again Mike you can tell you are a West Aussie.
But the the Vics in the vfl would not like it as it doesnt suit, favour the Vics.
The only change I would make is Geelong & Collingwood to be in a Perth or GC hub just to see Danger cry over missing his mummy and teddy bear and to see Eddie go redder/ruddier in the face than an Oompaloompa!!!

BH it's only fair if all the Vicco clubs can stay in Melbourne otherwise the other clubs would have a massive advantage (this how Eddie and the rest of the VFL ... sorry Melbourne based AFL clubs will see it.)
